The Lady Vikings expected a close match in their Aug. 30 road match-up against Salmon. The teams had split the previous weekend when they met in the Ice Breaker Tournament.
Challis prevailed by sweeping the Savages 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 27-25. The team played strong together. Challis was behind early in the second match but was able to regroup and come from behind for the win.
Salmon made a big run at the end of the third set but the Lady Vikings rallied and fought them off to get the 2-point lead and the win.
Kill leaders for the game were outside hitters Zoe D’Orazio and Halle Oerke with seven kills each. Libero Austyn Erickson led the team in serve receiving and had nine digs. Erin Anderson set up her teammates with 18 assists. Hannah Corrigan helped her team with five aces, a string of them at a crucial point in the contest.
The Lady Vikings travel to Grace for 5:30 and 7 p.m. games Thursday, Sept. 6. It’s the first conference match of the season. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Challis squad competes at the West Jefferson tournament before facing West Jefferson in another road game on Sept. 11 and yet one more road game at Butte High School on Thursday, Sept. 13.
