Kelli Ann Strand, a 2022 graduate of Challis High School, led the Nebraska Cornhusker women’s golf team to a first-place finish at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, Feb. 26 and 27.
Nebraska players shot cumulative rounds of 286, 280 and 277 for a three-round score of 843. That was 21 strokes under par. Ohio State finished second in the 14-team tournament with a total score of 850, 14 under par.
Strand placed fifth individually, following ties for first and third places. Her individual scores were 71, 69 and 69 for a three-round total of 209, which was 7 under par. The winners both shot a 207, 9 under par.
Strand, a freshman at Nebraska, led her team through all three rounds. She has opened the spring season with six consecutive rounds better than par in two tournaments and owns 14 rounds better than par for the year. The Arizona tournament, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, was her second straight top-10 finish for the spring season and her fourth of the year.
The Nebraska team competes next in South Carolina on March 13 and 14.
