It’s time we stopped thanking our medical staff. The state of Idaho will be in a world of hurt if we lose more doctors and nurses. No matter how many National Guard troops are assigned to help, they can’t take the place of trained medical personnel. (And I surely hope those troops have all been vaccinated.)
If we can pay to defend unconstitutional laws all the way to the state Supreme Court, lose at every step and then pay the defendants’ and the challengers’ attorney fees out of taxpayers’ money, any excuse that we can’t afford to reward nurses and doctors and hospital attendants for exceptional courage and effort loses all credibility.
And besides, it seems that in spite of the pandemic we have a surplus. It’s time to offer hospital staff combat pay.
