At Shelley, the Russets outlasted Idaho Falls in five sets for a conference volleyball win on Wednesday.
Shelley won 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8 to move to 4-1 in conference play. The Russets, Hillcrest and Idaho Falls are all battling for second and third place spots in 4A District 6 standings.
"The girls never let down," Shelley coach Dave Cousin said. "I.F. went up in the fourth set and the girls just refused to quit and came back. It was the intensity. I’m not seen them at all like that this year, keeping the intensity the entire match."
Sydney Leal had 24 kills while Alexis Leckington had eight kills. Tierney Bilstrom had four blocks, Kassidy Arzola had four kills and five aces and M.E. Gillespie had 36 assists for Shelley (12-9, 4-1 conference), which plays in the annual Bonneville-Hillcrest Classic tournament beginning Friday. Idaho Falls (2-4 conference) also begins the annual Bonneville-Hillcrest Classic on Friday.
BONNEVILLE 3, BLACKFOOT 0: At Blackfoot, the Bees defeated the Broncos 25-7, 25-7, 25-20 for a conference win.
Paige Dixon led the Bees with nine kills while Sadie Lott had seven kills, one ace, six digs. Sade Willliams had six kills, two blocks, two aces and six digs and Alexis McMurtrey had five aces, 21 assists and three digs.
"The passing was really, really accurate tonight," Bonneville coach Chantal McMurtrey said.
Bonneville (17-3, 4-0 conference) co-hosts the annual Bonneville-Hillcrest Classic tournament beginning Friday.
SKYLINE 3, HILLCREST 1: At Skyline, the Grizzlies rallied after the first set to beat the Knights in four sets for a conference win.
Stats and set scores were not available as of press time.
"We played really well in the first set but we were slow to make adjustments after the first set," Hillcrest coach Amanda Wade said. "Skyline adjusted really well after that first set and that's what really cost us."
Hillcrest (5-11, 3-2 conference) plays Friday in the Bonneville-Hillcrest Classic while Skyline hosts Thunder Ridge Thursday.
MADISON 3, THUNDER RIDGE 0: At Rexburg, the Bobcats defeated the Titans 25-10, 25-18, 25-22 for a conference win to remain undefeated in 5A District 5-6. No further details were available by deadline.
Madison and Thunder Ridge both play in the annual Bonneville-Hillcrest Classic tournament beginning Friday.
MACKAY 3, CHALLIS 1: At Mackay, the Miners beat the Vikings 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13 to get back into the win column.
Freshman Trinity Feefried finished with eight kills and 10 digs.
"We played great defense," Mackay coach Kashia Whitworth said. "Great overall game, but we played good defense."
Mackay (6-5) hosts Watersprings today at 5 p.m. while Challis hosts Salmon.
SUGAR-SALEM 5, FIRTH 0: At Sugar City, the Diggers shut out Firth for a conference win.
Scott Galbraith and Nathan Dayley had two goals each while Spencer Dayley also scored.
"Both teams worked hard," Sugar-Salem assistant coach Glenn Dayley said in an email. "Sam Puzey and Luke Terry did a good job for us on the back line, once again. It's good to see the team working well together as we move into the final weeks of the season."
Sugar-Salem (10-1-1, 2-1-0) hosts Teton on Friday.
SKYLINE 7, BONNEVILLE 1: At the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex, Bernice Chavez scored four goals in Skyline's conference win over the Bees.
Chavez scored in the sixth, 28th, 47th and 77th minute to give Skyline its eighth consecutive win. Teresa Ledezma scored two goals and Katie Nawrocki scored in the 32nd minute off Ledezma.
Ledezma finished with two assists on the night while Taylor Cole, Brooklyn Morgan, Brea Danklefsen and Anna Cheret also recorded assists.
Skyline (9-1-0, 7-0-0 4A) hosts Hillcrest on Tuesday while Bonneville (6-3-4, 3-2-2 4A) hosts Blackfoot on Tuesday.
