At the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex, Bernice Chavez scored both goals for the Skyline High School girls soccer team in a 2-0 win over Hillcrest in a battle between the top two teams in 4A District 6. 

The first half ended scoreless. Chavez scored in the 47th minute off a Brea Danklefsen assist and six minutes later off a Katie Nawrocki assist.

The win keeps Skyline undefeated at 8-0-0 versus conference opponents.

The Grizzlies (10-1-0 overall) play Thursday at Shelley.

BONNEVILLE 5, BLACKFOOT 2: At Bonneville, the Bees defeated Blackfoot for a conference win.

Scoring twice was Marie Bortne, the first a header off a Hunter Christensen assist and the second unassisted. Also scoring were Christian Hendrix off a corner kick set up by Hunter Christensen, Kenzie Pugmire (unassisted) and Madison Pugmire (unassisted).

Bonneville (7-4-3, 4-2-2) plays Idaho Falls on Thursday night at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.

IDAHO FALLS 8, SHELLEY 0: At Idaho Falls Soccer Complex, the Tigers dominated the Russets thanks to four goals from Jameson Lee. 

Idaho Falls led 4-0 at halftime and 3-0 13 minutes into Tuesday's conference match.

Tigers coach Ryan Cook said he was proud of his team's ability to find scoring opportunity, but also praised Shelley's fundamentals and coaching staff.

"We got on the board early and got them on their heels," Cook said. "Kudos to Shelley, though, they played hard ... I know good soccer when I see it."

Dimitri Fried-Ochoa, Kyle Fogg, Ben Christopherson and Fernando Varini all scored goals for I.F.

Idaho Falls (6-1-5, 5-0-3 4A District 6) plays Thursday at Bonneville. Shelley (2-8, 2-5 4A District 6) plays Thursday at Skyline.. 

HILLCREST 9, SKYLINE 1: At Ammon, Balor Reilly scored four goals and recorded an assist in a conference win over Skyline.

Reilly, who assisted Tofik Haws on Hillcrest’s first goal of the game, scored off assists from Jackson Keller, Ethan Serr (two assists) and Bo Linchenko.

Also scoring for the Knights, who led 5-1 at halftime, were Saul Espinosa (Jake Hoover assist), Johan Hernandez (two goals—first by Hadrian Pena assist, second unassisted) and Serr (Omar Reyes assist).

“It was a game for a lot of people to get opportunities to score,” Hillcrest coach Ryan Ellis said.

Hillcrest (10-1-3, 6-0-2) plays Thursday night at Blackfoot while Skyline (3-7-1, 3-5-0) hosts Shelley on Thursday.

BLACKFOOT 8, BONNEVILLE 1: At Bonneville, Blackfoot had five different goal scorers in a conference win over Bonneville.

Chris Botello, Mesa Rena and Logan Hansen each scored twice while Pedro Magana and Dominic Sanchez also scored for the Broncos, who led 2-0 at halftime.

“Bonneville are significantly improved from a month ago,” Blackfoot coach Liam Pope said. “The first two shots of the game came from Bonneville. The second half, we were a bit more patient and created more chances.”

Blackfoot (6-3-2, 5-2-1) hosts Hillcrest at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Blackfoot High School football stadium for senior night while Bonneville (0-13-0, 0-8-0) hosts Idaho Falls on Thursday.


BONNEVILLE 3, SHELLEY 0: At Shelley, Bonneville reached 30 wins on the season after sweeping Shelley 25-14, 25-11, 25-6. 

Alexis McMurtrey finished with seven aces, 12 digs and 31 assists, Makayla Sorensen had 12 kills, nine digs and an ace, and Paige Dixon had eight kills, two blocks and two aces.

"We served really well," Bonneville coach Chantal McMurtrey said. "Alexis served 24 balls tonight and they had some trouble returning them." 

Bonneville (30-3, 5-0 4A District 6) plays tonight at Idaho Falls. Shelley (4-2 4A District 6) hosts Blackfoot on Thursday.

MADISON 3, SUGAR-SALEM 0: At Rexburg, Madison swept Sugar-Salem 25-6, 25-11, 25-16 in a battle of Madison County volleyball powers.

Baylee Peterson had 10 kills and Lexi Garner had nine kills and two blocks for Madison (23-2), which plays Friday at the Claim Jumper Tournament in Utah. Sugar-Salem plays Thursday at South Fremont.

HILLCREST 3, BLACKFOOT 0: At Blackfoot, the Knights swept the Broncos 25-23, 25-21, 25-19. 

Hillcrest coach Amanda Wade said it was a good win for her team.

"It was definitely a match where my kids had to buckle down and have some mental toughness," Wade said. "That's something we can't always replicate in practice. I think they grew a lot as players tonight."

Hillcrest next plays in the Claim Jumper Tournament beginning Friday in Utah.

WEST JEFFERSON 3, RIRIE 0: At Ririe, the Bulldogs were swept by the visiting Panthers in three sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-18. 

"We weren't talking much on the court," Ririe coach Kathryn Nelson said. "We had some good individual performances, but we weren't talking on the court. They're a good team."

Ririe (5-4) plays Thursday at Firth while West Jefferson plays at the Malad tournament starting Friday. 

FIRTH 3, SALMON 0: At Firth, the Cougars swept Salmon with set scores of 25-16, 25-10, 25-7. 

Hailey Gee had 14 kills, Kiley Mecham had five kills, Abby Schiess added eight kills and Kaydee Park finished with 20 assists. 

"The girls played well. They were aggressive and they got it done pretty quickly," Firth coach Elda Park said. 

Firth (4-0 2A District 6) hosts Ririe on Thursday. 

WATERSPRINGS 3, CLARK COUNTY 0: At Watersprings, the Warriors swept the Bobcats 25-10, 25-22, 25-15. 

Joanna Hayes finish with 13 kills and 10 assists. Hayes also had 17 points on serves.

Jessi Merkle finished with 17 assists. Riley Winkleman had 19 points on serves Tuesday. 

"Our first set we played really well," Watersprings coach Robyn King said. "Then we changed up our lineups in the second set to get some other players some reps. We came back in the third set."

Watersprings (8-1) hosts Rockland at 5 p.m. Thursday.

NORTH FREMONT 3, BUTTE COUNTY 0: At Arco, North Fremont swept Butte County 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 in a nonconference game.

"It was close," Butte County coach Gretchen Simpson said. "We are just a very young team. I have a senior and a junior and the rest are sophomores and freshmen. It shows."

Butte County next plays Thursday at Challis.
